Hiking fortified castles and villages

Several Alsatian towns and villages have retained a medieval structure and appearance. In the Middle Ages, towns and villages were protected by a defence system of varying scope: Outer walls surrounding the town or village, defence towers connected by curtain walls, wall walks where defenders would patrol, and more.
