The difficulty of this hike is exclusively due to its length. In May 1941, in the place called “Struthof”, the Nazis opened a concentration camp: KZ Natzweiler-Struthof. The only concentration camp in France, it was located in Alsace, which was annexed by Germany at the time. A labour camp, it was also a site where Nazi doctors carried out experiments. 22,000 prisoners died there. Hiking tour taken from the “Topo-Guide Randonnée” guidebook (10 tours) for sale at the Obernai Tourist Office. Only in french.
