The Celts were a protohistoric civilisation. Eight centuries before Jesus Christ, the Celtic people were present in much of the European continent. They had a rich and important culture that reached its high point in the Iron Age. They had no real political unity. They lived in tribes that were independent from each other. It was probably due to their inability to unite that their numbers diminished and they were progressively integrated into other peoples, under the generic name Gauls (inhabitants of Gaul). Hiking tour taken from the “Topo-Guide Randonnée” guidebook (10 tours) for sale at the Obernai Tourist Office. Only in french.
